  • Did you know inspiration is a skill you can develop? In this workshop (or really, the ongoing theme and practice of this retreat) we’ll discuss the practical steps you can take to nourish that deeply magical and renewable part of yourself. Its rewards will return to you daily, year after year.

These practices have completely changed our lives, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

  • The natural world is rich with beauty, and one of the most gratifying ways we experience and celebrate that beauty is by taking photos and videos that share our unique points of view.

To capture a scene in a photograph is, in a way, paying respect to the beauty you are witnessing. It is an honor.

In this workshop, we will guide you through intuitive photography and video techniques, how to develop your unique point of view, and how we approach creating and capturing a meaningful image.

  • Our natural ink, plant dying, and foraging workshops are a beautiful time to connect intimately with the landscape and to learn about the art of sustainable art-making. Along with a local foraging expert, we will take you on a journey through the local flora and fauna so you can learn to identify and gather natural materials for dyeing. From the vibrant colors of wildflowers to the earthy tones of tree bark or mushrooms, you'll discover the beauty and versatility of natural dyes and inks.

  • Embark on a journey of natural beauty and creativity as Tanya guides you through a captivating demonstration. With her expert instruction, you'll discover the art of crafting your own silk scarf using flowers and plants as your palette.

Explore the historical significance of botanical dyes, diving into an ancient yet modern practice. With a gentle touch, vibrant flowers and plants reveal the promise of transforming silk into a canvas of natural hues.

Instructions become a dance of technique and imagination. Witness the meticulous process of arranging botanicals on silk, infusing each placement with artistic intention and a deeper connection to nature.

Steaming and heat work their magic, unveiling colors collaboratively born from you, the plants, and the essence of creation.

As the demonstration concludes, hold in your hands not just a scarf, but a testament to partnership with the Earth. This guidance fosters newfound appreciation for the beauty nature and human artistry can conjure.

  • Finding pigment in the landscape and transforming it into paint is one of the most gratifying practices. We’ll then transform this pigment into oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, and dyes can be used on canvas (and then the magic takes over.)

Using natural, non-toxic minerals, we'll create stunning works of art that are both beautiful and sustainable.

There is a lot of mystery in natural pigments — the ways they interact and react, the chemistry in play on your canvas… pure magic.

  • Using our foraged plants, bark, and mushrooms, Tanya will guide us in creating unique inks which we will then use to create original artwork with this magical, deeply inspiring medium.

This workshop will take you through the entire process of making natural inks from start to finish. We'll start by foraging for materials in the surrounding landscape and gardens, then create our own inks using simple techniques that anyone can master.

Once our inks are ready, we'll dive into the creative process and use them to make beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork.

  • This workshop will take you through the entire process of creating a painting inspired by Frankenthaler's iconic style. We'll start by foraging for materials in the surrounding wilderness and then move on to creating our own natural pigments using simple techniques.

With our pigments ready, we'll dive into the creative process and use them to create beautiful, abstract paintings on paper and canvas that capture the essence of the landscape, the emotion and energy you are tapping into, and the beauty in the world around you.

Whether you're an experienced artist or a complete beginner, this workshop is designed to inspire and challenge you and help you develop your own unique artistic voice.

  • Creativity takes many forms, and what a gratifying and delicious way to use your creativity!

Led by our retreat chef and pasta maker, this hands-on workshop will immerse you in the traditions of Italian cuisine as you learn to make your own pasta from scratch using only the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients. I personally CANNOT WAIT!

  • Painting outdoors, on location (plain air) awakens your inspiration and creativity in new ways. You have to literally work with the elements, the light, the scene in front of you. All of it comes to life in your artwork and the deeply immersed inspiration you experienced shines through.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Italian countryside and hone your painting skills as we explore the landscape together — finding the perfect place to create and the methods we use while painting outdoors in nature.

A day at the Italian Retreat

The Italian Retreat was a blend of rest, inspiration, and exploration. Our days were full and deeply nourishing yet gentle and restorative.

Inspiration was awakened each day with yoga sessions overlooking the Tuscan landscape or leisurely walks around the villa grounds with sketchbooks and pencils in hand.

Healthy breakfasts, crafted with locally sourced ingredients by our retreat chef, along with foraged tea, fresh coffee, and warm conversations, set the tone for the day.

Mornings were spent in workshops, whether gathering plants to make natural ink, experimenting with earth-based pigments in mixed media painting, participating in writing workshops, photography classes, or foraging for truffles and mushrooms to create ink. These workshops offered a beautiful blend of instruction, inspiration, and guided practice.

Lunch was enjoyed under the wisteria pergola, featuring plant-based ingredients from the Villa gardens and neighboring farms.

Afternoons followed the Italian tradition of a brief rest followed by exploration and creative endeavors. Afternoon workshops focused on applying morning skills while delving into new topics or different creative mediums.

Participants learned, explored, and created until sunset, followed by evenings of connection and community.

Dinners were leisurely affairs, enjoyed al fresco under the night sky, featuring locally sourced ingredients prepared by our retreat chef. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with new friends and savor the region's most delicious cuisine.

The Estate

The estate is a breathtaking retreat that transports you to a bygone era of Italian heritage and charm. Nestled in a valley, this once thriving crop-sharing village centered around a majestic castle is a true gem. The beautifully restored farmhouse villas and cottages where we stayed are a harmonious blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort.

As you step into your villa, you are immediately enveloped by the luminous energy of nature. The spacious interior is adorned with calming green and soft natural hues that seamlessly blend with the creamy stone floors and the warmth of a stone-carved fireplace. The attention to detail in the design and decor creates a serene and inviting atmosphere, making you feel at home in this idyllic setting.

The rose-scented garden overlooking the untouched valley is a haven of tranquility, providing numerous spots for you to unwind and reflect. Your free time at the estate is a time for restoration and adventure, right on the grounds. You can take a dip in the inviting infinity pool, where the sparkling water seems to merge with the horizon. Gathering around the fire pit in the evenings, we shared stories and laughter with newfound friends.

The estate also offers unique experiences that allow you to connect with nature and indulge in self-care. To lose yourself in a good book in the serene garden, or to practice yoga on the oak tree deck, surrounded by the beauty of the estate. The vineyards beckon to explore and learn about the wine-making process, while the nearby hiking trails lead to a mesmerizing waterfall and panoramic viewpoints, rewarding with breathtaking vistas that took our breath away.

Unique Dining Experience

A culinary venture founded by an ex-Michelin restaurant chef, curated a dining experience that delights the senses and nourishes the body and soul. During the retreat, all meals were thoughtfully crafted to be plant-based, showcasing the natural flavors and textures of seasonal produce. However, for those who desired, optional morning eggs from neighboring farms and freshly made cheese were added to the meals, providing a touch of indulgence.

True to its Italian-inspired roots, most of the meals at the retreat were served in an inviting outdoor setting, where guests gathered around a communal table and dine family-style. There's a sense of conviviality as platters of delicious food are passed around, encouraging sharing, laughter, and connection. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with the emphasis on enjoying the simple pleasures of good food and good company.

The culinary team takes pride in using organic wines to complement their meals. At dinners without after-dinner workshops or ceremonies, their own selection of organic wines were served, carefully chosen to pair perfectly with the plant-based cuisine.

We fully feel that that food is an expression of care and love. Our retreat team strives to create inclusive dining experiences that celebrate the joy of food in all its forms.

Nourishing, delicious food is one of the most generous gestures we can offer ourselves and others. The act of sharing a meal with friends, old or new, is seen as a powerful expression of love and connection. The culinary creations at the retreat are not only a feast for the senses, but also a celebration of the joy and warmth that comes from coming together around a table filled with wholesome, plant-based delights.

Discover the magic of Tuscany, Italy at our breathtaking retreat nestled in the serene 2000 acre nature reserve with vineyards, meadows, waterfalls, mountains, and forests.
